San Marcos River Ranch in Martindale, Texas is hosting the 2012 South Central Regional Junior Development Water Ski Clinic and Tournament July 6th – 8th. This three day event will provide a day of coaching clinics in slalom, trick and jump water skiing, followed by participation in a two day, three round Class C competitive water ski tournament for kids 6 to17 years old. Past events at other sites have included 100 clinic and tournament participants, representing approximately 80 families from 5 states.
San Marcos River Ranch is a new community 6 miles Southeast of San Marcos, Texas in the small thriving community of Martindale, Texas. San Marcos River Ranch hosted several Class C tournaments in 2010 ski season, hosted learn to ski clinics for local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.
The South Central Region is one of five regions of the American Water Ski Association (AWSA) and includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The American Water Ski Association is the 3-event Water Skiing representative affiliate of USA Water Ski, Inc., the national governing body of organized water skiing in the United States. The AWSA’s Junior Development Program is a nationwide program designed for competitive 3-event water ski athletes of all skill levels under the age of 17. The goals of the program are to attract and introduce recreational junior water skiers to competitive 3- event water skiing and to provide all competitive junior skiers assistance in developing their slalom, trick and jump skills.
These goals are accomplished primarily by providing coaching clinics and junior-only tournaments at the regional level. The clinics are designed to provide skiers access to coaching, equipment and facilities that they may not have available to them at public lakes and to foster good sportsmanship, friendly competition, community and camaraderie among the next generation of water skiers.
The national and regional Junior Development program, in addition to providing awards to junior skiers for their participation, maintains national and regional ranking lists, publishes individual results and highlights record-setting performances in The Water Skier and state and regional websites, and provides yearly scholarship opportunities to assist junior skiers in their pursuit of excellence.
Your support with a monetary or in-kind donation to this exciting event will help us promote the family-friendly sport of water skiing and build self-confidence and a lifelong love of sports and outdoor activities in these kids.
